Welcome to my website! It used to be known as Dead Reckoning, but that is being expanded into a brand beyond this site. More on that below.* "Dead Reckoning" is a nautical term used to describe the process of locating one's position using only a previously fixed point (not stars or landmarks) and, of course, one's speed and direction.

It is not just physical locations that need plotting. Cultural locations need to be plotted, too.  Where is our culture and society located?  That's another way of asking, "What does it all mean?"  More importantly, where are we located in relationship to a previously fixed point?  The "fixed point" I have in mind is not some nebulous, past golden age when things were better. (Cultural critique should go deeper than the observation that the 1950s were really... swell.)  No, that which gives us a truly fixed point, something to "reference" as we are tossed to and fro on the waves of life, is God's transcendent and utterly reliable revelation to us.

Here, and at my various Dead Reckoning media outlets, you will find my attempts to "locate" our culture with specific reference to the Christian Faith as the "fixed point."  And, as I have diverse interests, they will be eclectic contributions.  I am a theologian, writer, speaker, singer/songwriter, recording artist, and I avidly follow current events, cultural and political, as well as the Minnesota Twins Baseball Club. 

I was born, raised, and currently live in the State of Montana, Big Sky Country, or, as we like to call it, "The Last Best Place."  Educationally, I obtained a B.A. from Montana State University-Billings, an M.A.R. from Westminster Theological Seminary, and a Ph.D. in Systematic Theology from the University of Aberdeen (Scotland).  I now serve as Senior Scholar of Public Theology for theCenter for Cultural Leadership. I am honored as well to serve as faculty for the Alliance Defending Freedom'sBlackstone Legal Fellowship. I also co-host and produce Dead Reckoning.TV, Dead Reckoning Radio, and the Dead Reckoning Commentary. (See below for details)

*Dead Reckoning is now a brand name for the collaborative media content I produce with Jay Friesen and Red Futon Films. Currently we produce Dead Reckoning.TV, a weekly web video series, and Dead Reckoning Radio, a weekly audio podcast. Beginning in the fall of 2013 these will be consolidated into a single product with myriad ways to consume the content.
